Rift Healer - Review

Rift Healer by Diane M. Haynes
Blurb
After a minor earthquake, the enchanted forest in Bidwell, MA, is infested with monster-spewing rifts. Gisele's great nephew, the gifted Micah, and his distant cousin, Selena, arrive to assist. Together with Gisele's summer students, twins Haley and Lacey, they will try to help the magical forest. Much to the consternation of the beautiful Selena, Micah identifies Haley as The One whom he'll share his future. But after witnessing a terrifying display of Micah's Gift, Haley cools to his advances and unexpectedly discovers her own Gift-- she can heal the earth. Monsters, mayhem, and teenage angst follow the small group as they confront evil in the forest and a dangerous prediction that 'one will fall'. Will they heal the rifts in time? Can they save the unicorns? And is Haley really destined to be with Micah?

My Review
Haley and Lacey look forward to staying with their grandmother in the summer. They love being there and also they love helping and learning from Giselle. She help them have a fun summer last year learning a little about magic and exploring the enchanted forest. This summer may have more magic and adventure than the twins are expecting. See rifts are opening up and it may be up to them to save the forest and maybe the world from an evil. They have help when Micah and Selena show up at their aunt Giselle to help and learn more magic. Micah has more reasons for coming than learning magic. He wanted to meet Haley. Lacey's boyfriend Taylor is also there to help them heal the rifts and to help in what way he can.

Haley I liked from the start. She seemed like the shy girl who doesn't stand out a lot because she won't let herself. She grows so much in this book and even tho she is only 14 she learns a lot about growing up. Lacey is funny at times. She has to know what is going on with Haley all the time and never tries to get in Haleys way just has to know what is going on. They act like what I imagine sisters would ac like. Taylor is the normal guy that even if he isn't as powerful as the rest he learns quickly and always has everyones back. Micah to me came on to strong at times and could have a cocky attitude. He really cares for Haley but at times he would let that get in the way. I did grow to like him more as the book when on. Giselle I loved from the start she knows it may kill her but she still takes these kids to do what has to be done. She is so strong and has so much knowledge. Selena I didn't care for. She seemed liked the snotty girl who wants everything her way. Even when she helps out I still didn't grow to like her a whole lot.

This is a very clean YA fantasy/ adventure book. It has romance in it but it is a sweet young love that doesn't go to far. There is plenty of adventure as these kids do all they can and battle many creatures to heal the rifts. All types of creatures come out in this book making it a magical read. I enjoyed this book and soon got involved with the story trying to see if they will make it and wondering what things they will face next. The only thing that kept me from loving it was how serious some relationships seem in this book and the kids age. It is still a great book don't get me wrong I just didn't live that part of it. Maybe if they were a little older it wouldn't have bothered me as bad. If you are wanting to go on a magical adventure pick this one up!
