The Ward - ARC Review

The Ward(The Ward #1)
by Jordana Frankel
Blurb
Sixteen-year-old Ren is a daredevil mobile racer who will risk everything to survive in the Ward, what remains of a water-logged Manhattan. To save her sister, who is suffering from a deadly illness thought to be caused by years of pollution, Ren accepts a secret mission from the government: to search for a freshwater source in the Ward, with the hope of it leading to a cure.

However, she never expects that her search will lead to dangerous encounters with a passionate young scientist; a web of deceit and lies; and an earth-shattering mystery that’s lurking deep beneath the water’s rippling surface.

Jordana Frankel’s ambitious debut novel and the first in a two-book series, The Ward is arresting, cinematic, and thrilling—perfect for fans of Scott Westerfeld or Ann Aguirre.

My Review
Manhattan is now waterlogged and a disease runs rampant and the water is polluted. Ren is a daredevil girl who races mobiles who does what she can to help her sister. Her sister has the disease so Ren does many things to survive. She is on the look for freshwater which her government wants very badly. She takes a job not knowing it will be even more dangerous than even she could expect. She now has to figure out who is trying to help her, who is lying and survive being hunted by many people.

Ren is someone I loved so much. She jumps into something that is considered the boys sport and does a great job at it. She takes care of her sister even if she isn't her blood sister and does what she can to make her life better. She is faced with many hard choices and makes good decisions even if they will hurt her. She shows so much strength. Her downfalls are at times she can be a bit catty but really it makes her more real to me.Derek is Ren's bookie but he seems to have many secrets. Ren has had a crush on him for years. I liked him most of the time even if he seems to be hiding a lot. Callum is another character you will get to meet. He is a brilliant young doctor who is trying to help the people. He has people after him from different places and has a hard time doing his research. Aven is Ren's "sister" and very ill. She really is the one who keeps Ren moving forward. Super sweet girl and even if she is sick does everything she can to keep going her self.

I really enjoyed this book. The plot seemed like a great one and I thought it would be great. It has a few twist I did not see coming and to me they made the book even greater. It is a treat to see a strong girl character that won't back down from the boys. The action in this book really starts from the beginning and just keeps picking up all the way thru the book. The author describes many scenes that will vividly put them in your head. You can actually see the places you are at. The only reason i gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is I wanted more of a background story I guess you can say. I think it would be great to see more details of how it cam to be. I will for sure be looking for the next book. It will be neat to see what happens to Ren next and more of this dystopian world.

The cover of this book is so awesome! I love it and it goes perfect with the book.
4 out of 5 Bats~Pam
